Iceland News - 2021 Volcano Footage
We all remember the 2010 Icelandic volcano eruption of Eyjafjallajökull and the ash cloud that caused much disruption to air traffic and travel.
On 19th March this year another volcanic eruption begun in the region of Fagradalsfjall mountain on the Reykjanes peninsula. The eruption appears to be small and no ash fall has been reported at this time. The glow of the molten lava can be seen over a wide area. Due to its location it does not pose any immediate danger to infrastructure. A narrow tongue of lava is flowing south-south-west and another to the west.
Keflavík International Airport remains open at this time and authorities are monitoring the area closely but have been well prepared for this situation. Local advise is to keep away from the area, roads are closed and if you wish to see what is happening use the live feed online or on TV at home.
